Handmade Chains

Hand-made chains add a lot of personality and detail to jewelry pieces. I use different techniques to make chains. My favorite, but also the most time consuming, are loop-in-loop chains. In this chain-making technique, chains are made of fine silver links woven together in patterns that are thousands of years old. There are examples of woven chains as old as 2500 B.C. but most of the ancient pieces that use this technique that still exist today are Roman, Greek  or Byzantine, i.e., date from two millennia or more later. Much less time consuming is a Viking-type chain. It does not use individual links, but rather it is woven from a continuous silver wire.
